You Don’t Have To

(a poem for my friends who feel alone)

You don’t have to tell me,

You don’t have to say a word,

Your actions tell it all —

Life’s been tough and you can’t move.

I don’t want you to feel sorry,

Please don’t feel you’re in a crowd,

You are family, you are with me,

You are loved, and you are home.

I know you’re lonely, but don’t you feel

Like you are ever alone;

Don’t fake a smile, but you can try!

I have a shoulder to cry on.

Only Jesus, only Jesus

Can explain those lonely years,

But I am here to hear your story

Here to pray your tears away.
